Inspiration: Google chrome experiment “OZ”

In their quest to explore opportunities arising from the latest web technologies, Google has released a new experiment for their webbrowser Chrome: “FIND YOUR WAY TO OZ”. Google has teamed up with Disney to create an interactive online mini-adventure promoting Disney’s new fairy tale film “The Great and Powerful Oz”.

The website reveals a cute online 3D-environment of a circus site in Kansas. Visitors are prompted to move around and find their way to the hot-air balloon which will ultimately take them to the country of Oz. Moving around, visitors will find various features to play with – such as an interactive photo booth, which allows taking photos with your webcam, having them copied into an old circus poster and sharing them with friends across Twitter or Facebook.

Another great feature is an interactive music box which allows to compose your own melody, or a moving images feature for recording a short video, in which a little character from the movie is then included.

Try it out here (since it’s a Google Chrome experiment, don’t be surprised that it works best using Google’s Chrome browser…) For the tech-minded – here’s a technical case study, in which Google’s developers and designers describe which technologies were being used and which solutions they came up with.
